Fire Prevention Week (October 9-15)

Just wanted to pass on some fire prevention safety tips, as it is Fire Prevention week in Canada!

This week, during Fire Prevention Week, the provincial Fire Marshal’s Office reminds us all that if we take some simple preventative measures, we can help prevent fire and save lives and property.

Most fires are caused by human carelessness and are both predictable and preventable. Did you know that careless smoking is the leading cause of fire-related deaths, or that cooking-related fires are the number one cause of home fires?

Follow these simple preventative measures and help protect your family from fire.
●   Ensure that the batteries in your smoke alarm are fresh and test the alarm often. Working smoke alarms save lives.
●   Plan two escape routes from every room and make sure everyone knows how to get out safely.  Practice home fire drills regularly.
●   Never smoke or allow someone to smoke when they are under the influence of medication, alcohol or drugs.  Careless smoking is the leading cause of fire-related deaths.
●   Never leave cooking appliances unattended when in use. Cooking-related fires are the number one cause of home fires.
●   Keep matches and lighters out of sight and out of reach of children.
