Week 5: October 3 - 7
Wow! It is so hard to believe that September is over! Welcome to the Fall season!
In Literacy, we will be working on the Reading Strategy "Check for Understanding" this week. After reading a page of text, students should be stopping and asking themselves :
WHO? - and tell who it is about.
WHERE? - and tell where the story is taking place.
WHAT? - and tell what just happened in the story.
Students can practice this at home as well, in their daily reading with you.
Along with some self-selected books, students will be taking home some texts from their Guided Reading groups this week. These books will have been read and discussed in class that day. It is important to re-read books to work on FLUENCY. Keep up the super work Grade 3!
In Math this week we will continue to explore numbers to 1000. Students were quizzed on Friday, and I am very pleased with the results! We are all on the right track with our math skills! We will continue to look at comparing and ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. We will also be looking at skip counting by 5's, 10's, 25's, and 100's. At home this week, please continue reviewing addition facts. (doubles, plus ones, and plus twos). The review done at home will help build your child's mental math skills in class.
In Health we will be moving onto looking at Interactions. In this section of our Relationship Choices unit, students will develop strategies to build an enhance friendships, demonstrate inclusive behaviors regardless of individual/family differences or circumstances, and describe the effects of conflict on relationships.
We hope you all have a great first week of October!
