Week 6: October 11 - 14

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  We hope that you all have a wonderful long weekend filled with family, friends, and turkey!

In Literacy this week, the children are continuing to learn the features of "Retell Texts", through interactive read alouds, shared and modeled writing.  They will even begin writing a retell text of their own!

Girls and boys, on occasion some of you have forgotten your homework bag at school.  If this happens, just read a book from home for the 15 minutes.  It's always fun to read an old-time favorite!

In Math, we worked very hard this past week on skip counting by 5's, 10's, 25's, and 100's. Some students struggled with this concept, so it is a great skill to practice at home this week.  Parents can just play a quick counting game each night where they pick a certain number that your child can skip count from (forwards OR backwards!) For example 455 and count ON by 5's.  This week those skip counting concepts will be applied and related to counting with coins.  This is also a very easy concept that parents can practice at home.  You could set up a little store and have your child work with pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, loonies, toonies, and bills, to make the correct amounts or the correct change from bills.  You can also be conscious of prices at the grocery store this week!  Also, please continue practicing those addition facts!

In Health we will continue to look at our friendships and conflicts that can arise.  Students created a fantastic bulletin board display with their words and actions that can build walls or bridges in friendships.  We will also look at demonstrating inclusive behaviors towards individual and family differences that can be found all around us.

Happy October Birthdays go out to our grade 3B friends, Kennedy and Rowan!!

Upcoming dates to remember:
October 20 & 21 - Annual Convention (NO School for students)
Stay tuned for news on the school's date for Halloween activities.
