Week 8: October 24 - 28

We hope you all enjoyed your long weekend!

This week in Math students will be looking at estimating to 1000 as well as learning how much 1000 of something is. These two concepts will wrap up our first unit on Numbers to 1000!  Key strategies to use with these concepts include:

~ Having a known amount of something in order to reference a known size taken from an unknown size, allowing us to make closer estimates;
~ Knowing that 1000 is 10 hundreds or 100 tens;
~ Understanding that 1000 can be a small or large number/size depending on the items used to count it!  For example, 1000 buttons looks a lot different from counting 1000 cars.

In Health,  students are wrapping up their examination of conflicts and will look at skills required to work cooperatively in a group as well as examine fair play this week.
In Literacy, the reading strategy we will be focusing on this week is "Cross-checking"...  Do the pictures and/or words look right?  Do they sound right?  Do they make sense?  This strategy encourages the students to stop and take a look at their accuracy (I can read the words) in reading.

There is a school Halloween bake sale on Thursday - all items are $0.50.  There will be a note home later this week regarding our Halloween Celebration here at school.
