This week in Literacy, through read alouds, modelled and shared writing, the students will be looking at "juicy details" in texts. They will be carefully looking at word choice in certain author's texts and then be challenged to add some juicy details in some of their own writing. A reading strategy that will be a focus this week will be to make a picture or a mental image while reading (enhancing comprehension). Keep up the great work Grade 3 - we are so proud of you!
In Math this week, students will wrap up their study on Data Analysis. They have demonstrated their skills on pictographs, line plots, and bar graphs through collecting, organizing and graphing their data. Students had a lot of fun during this unit! Our next unit will focus on Addition and Subtraction. of two and three digit numbers.
In Science, students will continue their study on magnetism. They thoroughly enjoyed getting to complete the first two experiments to determine what type of materials were attracted to magnets last week. This week students will look at measuring a magnets strength through another experiment.
The cafeteria will be having a Christmas Turkey Dinner on Thursday December 8. The meal consists of roast turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce, dessert, and a small milk. The cost is $5.50. The due date for meal orders and money is Friday, December 2. If your child wishes to order a dinner, please send the money in an envelope or baggie with your child's name on it.
Also in the cafeteria, Thursdays are "Sub Day". Your child can pre-order a sub the day before or Thursday morning. If you would like an order form sent home, just put a note in your child's agenda. (Or we can help them fill in the form in class.) The buns are baked fresh and there are lots of veggie toppings to pick from. The cost is $3.50 ($5.00 for the roast chicken).
