Week 21: January 30 - February 3
Wow! It certainly is hard to believe that January is over already!
In Math last week, students finished up their unit on Addition and Subtraction. We rounded out the week with a unit test and I was very pleased with all of the students results! Way to go everyone!! This week, students will begin their new unit on Measurement. This unit will focus on measuring the passage of time on clocks and calendars in non-standard units (TV shows) and standard units (seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years); measuring items in centimeters and meters for length, width, height, and to calculate perimeter; and measuring the mass of an object using grams and kilograms.
At home to practice these skills you could:
1) Keep a calendar of family events and activities;
2) Challenge your child to complete a task in a given time frame, then beat their time the next time they do it;
3) Ask your child to estimate and measure length, width, height, or perimeter of objects around the house;
4) Or ask your child to identify items at the grocery store that are sold by mass (g or kg).
In Social Studies, we are wrapping up our first chapter that focused on locating PEI on maps, as well as the key features and qualities of maps. This week we will complete our booklets as well as complete a set of stations designed to assess students knowledge on what we have covered so far.
In Literacy, we have written a very persuasive class letter to Mr. McAulay and we are waiting to hear back from him! The students are getting to be terrific persuasive writers - watch out moms and dads - there may be some pretty convincing letters coming your way!
In Art students have began working on sketching self portraits!
