Week 31: April 16 - 20

We hope you all enjoyed our beautiful weekend!  Let's hope the sunshine is here to stay!

Athena will be holding a Cupcake Sale on Tuesday April 17th.  Each cupcake will cost $0.50, with all proceeds going to the Easter Seals Campaign.
This week in Math, students will begin to look at division and discover how it is related to multiplication.  We ended last week off with a multiplication quiz, and everyone demonstrated their strong multiplication skills! Way to go 3B!!! In division, we will be working with counters to divide bigger groups into smaller EQUAL groups. We will continue creating our flashcards and work on the 5's this week, which is skip counting by 5's.  We will practice these facts by using the clock! Please remember to review these flashcard facts with your child each night, and return them to school in the morning.  You should also keep reviewing the basic addition and subtraction facts, especially if your child finds them difficult.

In Social Studies this week, students will continue their study on rural and urban communities.  We will work to describe the characteristics of each community, and create a Venn Diagram to represent them.  We will also take a look at reasons why people would choose to live in both types of communities.

In Literacy, students have been preparing for their descriptive report writing.  They have chosen a topic, collected texts from the library, have organized their descriptive reports into headings, and are now learning how to read the information from their research and "take notes". They are very excited to be off and on their way with their descriptive report writing!
