Week 19: January 16-20
This week in Math students will continue to work with subtracting 2 digit numbers, with and without regrouping (borrowing). By the end of the week we will be looking at the same concept but expanding our knowledge to working with subtracting 3 digit numbers. We will be continuing our work with story problems and really honing in on the part-part-whole concept to decide what parts of the story are missing and need to be found. Please continue to practice the basic addition and subtraction facts with your child at home! This is the time where having those skills down pat comes in handy!
In Social Studies we will take a closer look at the key features of a map and how to use them. Students will begin to create there own "Where Do I Live in the World?" booklet where they will use art to create pictures/maps of their bedroom, their house, their street, their city, and continue to grow and pick out where they are located in each map they create.
In Literacy students will continue to work with Persuasive Writing. The children are really enjoying this writing type and having fun "persuading" their audience! The reading strategy we will focus on this week is to Predict what will happen in our reading and then use the text to confirm our predictions (comprehension).
Just a reminder to ensure your child has warm clothes to go outside. Our playground is very windy and can be very cold. We always go outside unless it is colder than -20. If you send the clothes, I will check that your child wears them! Also, please send in dry socks for your child to keep in his or her locker, just in case.
We also want to wish Anna a very happy birthday this month!!
Thanks to all for the continued donation of cereal to our class!!
