Week 14: December 5-9

In Literacy this week, students will continue their work with procedural writing and how to texts.  We will be completing some artwork this week that involves following directions and procedures closely.  A reminder to keep up the reading at home!

In Math this week, students will continue to look at the relationship between adding and subtracting, complete equations, and estimate sums.  Students are doing great with this unit so far!  Please remember to keep practicing their basic addition and subtraction facts with them at home each night!

In Science students worked with the north and south poles of a magnet.  They have discovered that opposite poles (North/South) will ATTRACT each other, while like poles (North/North or South/South) will REPEL each other.  Next we will be looking at finding the North pole of a magnet when it is not marked.  We will also be moving on to looking at static electricity this week.

Our Christmas Concert will be held on Wednesday for two performances at 1:00 and 6:30 pm.  Children are asked to dress in nice clothing.  For the evening performance, your child can be dropped off at the classroom at 6:10.  After the concert, please come to the class to pick up your child.  There was a form sent home on Friday for a chance to win the best seat in the house.  Money for this is due by Tuesday.  Good luck!

Just a reminder that if your child did not purchase a turkey dinner for the cafeteria on Thursday, they must bring their own lunch!  No other food, not even milk, will be available that day!

Also a quick reminder about our field trip to the Wyatt Properties on Monday Dec. 12.  We will be leaving the school at 12:30 and returning at 2:30.  Students will be learning about traditions and history surrounding Christmas on PEI which coincides with our new Social Studies program. Permission slips are due Friday along with the $2.75 fee.
